REP. DONALDS STATEMENT OPPOSING DEMOCRATS' RADICAL FEDERAL TAKEOVER OF ELECTIONS

Press Release

Date: Jan. 13, 2022
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Elections

Today, Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL) issued the following statement opposing House Democrats' radical plan to eviscerate state elections law through the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act cloaked in H.R. 5746.

"Voting rights in America are not under attack in 2022, regardless of what Democrats are deceitfully promoting. The United States Constitution clearly states that laws surrounding the time, place, and manner of elections belong in the hands of state legislatures----not politicians on Capitol Hill. Democrats are using this bill to enact their radical plans to abolish voter identification laws, force taxpayer funding of elections, expand preclearance laws across the nation, and allow ballots to be counted seven days after Election Day.

"As President Biden's approval rating hits a record low of 33% and the 2022 midterms are rapidly approaching, the Democrats are resorting to their overplayed trick up their sleeve by injecting race into the political debate. The fact remains, it is easier to vote in conservative states like Georgia, Florida, and Texas than it is in liberal states like Delaware, New Jersey, and New York. Career politicians and bureaucrats have no constitutional authority or business telling my home state of Florida, or any State in our constitutional republic, how to run our elections. We must stand up for fundamental voting rights and, most of all, our Constitution and oppose this political power-grab legislation."
