ICYMI: Congressman Keller Takes Legislative Action to Secure the Southern Border

Date: Feb. 3, 2022

In case you missed it, Congressman Fred Keller (PA-12) supported various legislative initiatives this week to demand accountability from the Biden administration to secure the southern border and stop the transportation of illegal aliens throughout communities in the United States.

On Thursday, Congressman Keller co-sponsored the Immigration Transparency and Transit Notification Act, led by Congressman Dan Meuser (PA-09), which requires the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Health and Human Services (HHS) to notify the relevant federal, state, and local officials about the transportation of illegal aliens and unaccompanied alien children (UAC) in their state.

Congressman Keller also cosigned a letter led by Congressman Ben Cline (VA-06) to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) requesting answers related to the Biden administration's failed Catch and Release program.

"Over 270,000 illegal aliens were disseminated into the United States with over 100,000 aliens being released with a Notice to Report (NTR) and that is just from March 21, 2021, to August 31, 2021. Over half of those given a 60-day NTR have failed to report to ICE and begin their deportation proceedings," the lawmakers said.

"As the Acting Director of ICE, you are charged with serving as a defender and protector of the United States. These startling numbers under your leadership are unacceptable, and the American people deserve to know the truth," the lawmakers continued.

On Wednesday, Congressman Keller and House Oversight and Reform Committee Republicans sent a fourth letter to Chairwoman Carolyn Maloney (NY-12) demanding a full committee hearing with officials from DHS and HHS to provide insight into agency efforts to secure the border.

"It is unacceptable that Committee Democrats have failed to hold a single hearing on the Biden Administration's immigration and border security policies. We renew our request for a public and in-person hearing with witnesses from the Department of Homeland Security, including ICE, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services -- Office of Refugee Resettlement," the lawmakers said.

During an interview with Newsmax, Congressman Keller discussed why it's necessary to hold a border security hearing with officials from DHS and HHS present.

"We've actually sent four letters, starting last spring, to Chairwoman Carolyn Maloney to have hearings on what the administration knew and what were they told by these intelligence agencies, by these departments at the southern border that caused them to reverse the policies that we knew were working," Congressman Keller said during the interview.

On Wednesday evening, Congressman Keller spoke on the House Floor about the many crises President Biden's open border policies have created, including the overflow of fentanyl into America.

This is not a rural or urban issue--it is an American issue. And one that requires the full force of the federal government to address," Congressman Keller said during his remarks.
