Congressman Michael McCaul (TX-10) released the following statement following news of Congressman John Katko's retirement from Congress.

"John Katko and I both started out as federal prosecutors and chose to bring our experience to Washington, D.C. to protect our nation. When he first joined the Homeland Security Committee as a freshman, John passed more bills out of committee than any other freshman member in the history of Congress. When I chaired the Homeland Security Committee, our country was faced with turbulent events, but it was John's wit and wisdom that got us through some of the darkest hours.

"I consider him a steadfast friend and colleague and I will miss serving alongside him in Congress dearly. Throughout his career, John has prioritized policies that better our national security to ensure the safety of all Americans. He has been a champion for our federal law enforcement officers and fought for policies to provide them with better support.

"The people of New York's 24th have certainly been blessed with John as their Representative. I wish my friend all the best in his next chapter and want to thank him for his selfless service to our nation."
