MATSUI STATEMENT ON HOUSE PASSAGE OF THE AMERICA COMPETES ACT OF 2022

Statement

Today, Congresswoman Doris Matsui (D-CA), a senior member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, issued the following statement after the House passed the America Creating Opportunities for Manufacturing, Pre-Eminence in Technology and Economic Strength (America COMPETES) Act of 2022.

"Today, the House took action to support American workers and invest in the future of our innovation economy. The America COMPETES Act tackles some of our most pressing economic challenges head on -- taking bold steps to modernize our research capacity and support advanced manufacturing in America," said Congresswoman Matsui. "I am a proud author of the CHIPS for America Act, which established a roadmap for reasserting American leadership in the strategically important semiconductor industry. This bill includes the $52 billion in funding necessary to secure the semiconductor supply chain. These chips are fundamental building blocks of the 21st Century economy -- and these investments will help us maintain American innovation and lower costs for American families."

"I am also glad the package includes a $1.5 billion provision based upon my legislation to support next generation telecommunications networks by encouraging deployment of Open RAN technology," Matsui continued. "It is time to forge a transformative future for American workers, businesses, and families. We must seize this opportunity for progress. I now urge my colleagues to begin the conference process immediately to allow votes in the House and Senate as soon as possible."
