Tonko Heralds Major Federal Grant to Develop Offshore Wind Manufacturing at Port of Albany

Congressman Paul D. Tonko today cheered the awarding of $29.5 million from the U.S. Department of Transportation for a new offshore wind manufacturing facility at the Port of Albany, paving the way for the Capital Region's leadership in this emerging industry and bringing good paying, clean energy jobs to the region.

"Offshore wind presents a tremendous opportunity to lower energy costs and reduce pollution all while promoting regional job creation and economic growth," Congressman Tonko said. "I'm spearheading the effort in Congress to capitalize on this opportunity, and am proud to have successfully fought for this historic investment in our local Port of Albany. This award ensures that New York State will help lead the way of innovation in this emerging industry as one of the nation's first large-scale, offshore wind tower manufacturing centers. My congratulations to all involved in this worthy effort to green our ports and secure our nation's strong clean energy future."

This $29.5 million investment will support the Port of Albany Offshore Wind Manufacturing Project, a historic clean energy and economic development program for the Capital Region. This massive achievement will make Albany home to one of the first large-scale offshore wind tower manufacturing facilities in the nation, creating more than 1,000 high-quality, clean energy jobs for the region.
