CRIST STATEMENT ON INTERNATIONAL HOLOCAUST REMEMBRANCE DAY

Press Release

Representative Charlie Crist (D-St. Petersburg) released the following statement marking International Holocaust Remembrance Day:

"Today, we remember the six million Jews who were killed in the Holocaust and the millions of other people murdered by the Nazis. As we mark the unthinkable horror birthed from hatred of Jews, we acknowledge that that same hatred remains with us today. From the hostage crisis at Congregation Beth Israel in Colleyville, Texas to recent incidents of the distribution of anti-Semitic propaganda in Jewish communities in South Florida, we must recommit ourselves to calling out, and fighting against, anti-Semitism and hate.

"As we continue to lose the last generation of Holocaust survivors to time, we will continue to tell the truth about what happened during the darkest period in human history. We will call out Holocaust misinformation and denialism for precisely what it is: anti-Semitic hate. And we will educate the younger generations with a full and honest understanding of the Shoah.

"We remember and honor the brave servicemembers who liberated Auschwitz 77 years ago today. Their courage, and the determination of the Allied forces, defeated the Nazis and saved the world from tyranny. On International Holocaust Remembrance Day, we remember the suffering and the pain, and we also remember the strength and the resilience. We will never forget."
