"I'd like to thank Rep. Carolyn B. Maloney, Chairwoman of the Committee on Oversight and Reform. Without her leadership on this cause, this investigation into the tragedy at the Astroworld Festival could not have come to fruition. On the eve of what is traditionally a joyful holiday season, far too many families will still be in mourning. The loss at NRG Park last month still weighs heavily on the loved ones and friends of those who tragically lost their lives. As a sitting member of Congress who represents the area where this horrific tragedy occurred, I am exceedingly disturbed by the events that unfolded at this festival on Friday, November 5, 2021," Congressman Al Green said. "Since the day following this tragic affair, I have been very supportive of efforts to uncover exactly what went wrong and hold accountable the parties responsible for this dreadful incident. Because this is bigger than the city of Houston, future measures must be taken to prevent this from happening again in other venues across the country."

Congressman Al Green continued, "Members involved in this effort, including myself, are requesting that by January 7, 2022, Live Nation Entertainment provides the Committee with information regarding their role in the festival, security plans for this event, and steps taken to help individuals as reports came in during the concert that people were in desperate need of aid. Justice must be served to ensure that what happened at Astroworld Festival does not happen again. People should be able to leave their homes to enjoy live music without worrying about whether they will return home safely or be crushed by a stampede. There must be accountability and transparency----thoughts and prayers are not enough."
