Location: Charleston, WV

U.S. Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) and Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced $623,703 from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for housing assistance in West Virginia. This funding will support the employees assisting West Virginians participating in the Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) Program, which provides resources and training to improve their economic outcome. Additionally, this funding provides rental assistance to West Virginia Veterans and provides clinical Veterans Affairs (VA) services.

"The Family Self-Sufficiency Program works with housing authorities across West Virginia to provide a hand to families in our state," Senator Capito said. "These grants announced today will help connect families to training and services, reduce dependency on welfare, and bring public and private partners together to work with participants in the program. I'm glad the multiple housing authorities receiving resources today will be able to expand these critical services throughout West Virginia."

"Every West Virginian deserves to have a roof over their head and a warm place to sleep at night. I am pleased HUD is helping West Virginians get back on their feet after hard times and investing in Mingo County to support our brave Veterans with rental assistance, medical care and other services. As a member of the Senate Veterans Affairs and Appropriations Committees, I will continue advocating for funding that helps West Virginia organizations care for our fellow West Virginians, especially our Veterans who have sacrificed so much for our great nation," Senator Manchin said.
