Rep. Jamaal Bowman Tours Bronxville with Mayor Mary Marvin and Two Trustees

Press Release

Date: Jan. 6, 2022
Location: Bronxville, NY

Yesterday, Congressman Jamaal Bowman (NY-16) joined Bronxville Mayor Mary Marvin, and William C. Fredericks and Mary Taylor Behrens, members of the Board of Trustees for a tour of the Village, including parts of the Bronx River Parkway. When Hurricane Ida hit, the Bronx River flooded easily between Bronxville and White Plains, and Rep. Bowman, Mayor Marvin, and the Trustees discussed plans to get the resources needed to repair damage and mitigate future flooding.

"The Bronx River Parkway is the nation's oldest parkway, started in 1906 and completed in 1925," said Congressman Jamaal Bowman (NY-16). "We must get the resources needed to fix the issue of flooding. Rare storms that would happen every hundred, fifty, or ten years are happening much more frequently, and we need to do everything in our power to protect our people and our communities. The success of federal climate funding depends on bold leadership and I will continue to be a voice in Washington that highlights the importance of climate action and the clean energy economy, while protecting the health of every American."

"Having Rep. Bowman here was extraordinary," said Bronxville Mayor Mary Marvin. "The two Trustees and I were so pleased that the Congressman took time to see the issues in Bronxville. It says volumes about his concern and dedication to the Village, and I'm honored and appreciative. We are looking to continue the good dialogue and friendship."

During his visit, Rep. Bowman discussed the Global Green New Deal, which promotes trade that grows and empowers labor and foreign policy and moves us toward 100% clean and renewable energy abroad. The Congressman also emphasized the relevance of the Senate passing the House-passed Build Back Better Act, that will address immediate health and economic concerns, bringing funds to NY-16 that will benefit our children, families, workers, and our most vulnerable by investing in affordable housing, quality, sustainable and accessible public transportation, guaranteed paid leave, lower health care costs, public school infrastructure, community development funds for community centers, after-school facilities, senior centers, and lower child care costs for working families to ensure the 16th Congressional District has the resources needed for everyone to be healthy, safe, and our communities to be climate resilient.
