Statement

Date: Dec. 19, 2021
Location: Washington, DC

Today, Senator Richard Burr (R-NC), released the following statement on the passing of former Georgia Senator Johnny Isakson:

"Johnny Isakson was an accomplished statesman, a devoted husband and father, and a dear and loyal friend. He and I both arrived in the Senate in 2005 and worked together closely over the years. Johnny was someone who focused not on getting the credit, but on getting things done. He was never afraid to reach across the aisle to find common cause, but he always knew when to stand his ground. He was a tireless and effective advocate for his beloved home state of Georgia and for our nation's veterans, dedicating his career to fighting for the men and women who fought for our country. Never content to sit on the sidelines, he left things better than he found them.

"Anyone who had the privilege of knowing Johnny knew the warmth and sense of humor he brought to everything he did. It's what we'll miss the most. Brooke and I are heartbroken over Johnny's loss. Our prayers and deepest condolences are with Dianne and the entire Isakson family."
