García, Espaillat, Correa Statement on Parliamentarian Striking Immigration Plan "C' from Build Back Better Act

Statement

Date: Dec. 16, 2021
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Immigration

Today, Representatives Jesús "Chuy" García (IL-04), Adriano Espaillat (NY-13) and Lou Correa (CA-46), released the following statement regarding the Senate Parliamentarian's ruling barring the inclusion of work authorization and deportation protections for our nation's undocumented immigrants in the Build Back Better Act:

"We are deeply disappointed by the Senate Parliamentarian's decision tonight barring the inclusion of Plan "C' in the Build Back Better Act -- yet another rejection of immigration reform that without a doubt has a significant budgetary impact," said the members. "For the past 35 years we've promised our communities that we would deliver for them, and we can't let an unelected bureaucrat decide the future of our nation's most vulnerable -- and hardworking -- neighbors."

"We've said it before, and we will say it again: at this point, the Senate can -- and must -- reinstate a pathway to citizenship in the Build Back Better Act, even if that means disregarding the Senate Parliamentarian and bringing that vote to the Senate floor," the members concluded. "History will take note of those who for so long have championed delivering for our communities, but have delivered nothing but inaction, empty promises, and dreams deferred."
