Kaptur Announces $140M in Federal Funding for Ohio Energy Bill Assistance

Today, Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur (OH-09) released the following statement regarding the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services $140,491,616 award for Ohio's Home Energy Assistance Program, which provides eligible Ohio residents financial assistance to offset the cost of home energy bills. This funding was made possible by the House's passage of H.R. 5305 -- the Extending Government Funding and Delivering Emergency Assistance Act -- in a 254-175 vote on September 30, 2021. Every Democrat voted in support of the legislation, while 175 Republicans voted against.

The Ohio Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) -- funded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program -- allows individuals, families, and seniors with household incomes at or below 175 percent of the federal poverty line to receive a one-time financial benefit that is applied directly to their utility or bulk fuel bills.

"As we continue to recover from the pandemic, President Biden and Congressional Democrats are working to protect the most vulnerable in our communities," said Rep. Kaptur. "This federal funding will ensure that our families and seniors in need are able to stay healthy and warm in their homes throughout the winter months."
