Congressman Anthony G. Brown (MD-04) released the following statement on House passage of the Build Back Better Act:

"Since day one, the Democrats and the Biden-Harris Administration have prioritized the wellbeing of families. With the Build Back Better Act we will deliver historic support to the middle class and the working people of our country. The House passage of this landmark legislation is a significant step forward in our efforts to uplift every American and Marylander, through good-paying jobs, middle class tax cuts, quality education, health care and housing and a strong commitment to equity, justice and confronting climate change.

"This legislation recognizes the challenges facing working families and our country, as we continue to Build Back Better following the height of the COVID-19 pandemic and look toward a brighter future. We know that we can't leave anyone or any community behind.

"The Build Back Better Act ensures universal pre-kindergarten programs to give our kids a strong foundation and help parents enter the workforce. The bill extends the Child Tax Credit, strengthens the Affordable Care Act and Medicare, tackles the high cost of prescription drugs and provides paid family and medical leave to ensure a strong support system for families and children. We reaffirm our commitment to protecting our immigrant communities and continue toward the goal of a clear pathway to citizenship. And we make the largest ever investment to address the pressing, existential threat that climate change poses to our communities and planet.

"We are leading with our values by passing an agenda that is big, bold and meets the challenges facing Maryland, our country and working families. I urge the Senate to act quickly to get the Build Back Better Act to the desk of President Biden, for the people."
