Statement

Date: Dec. 21, 2021
Location: Washington, DC

Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued the following statement after Congressman Albio Sires announced that he will retire at the end of his term:

"From City Hall to the State House to the House of Representatives, Congressman Albio Sires has long understood the many challenges New Jersey's working families face -- and has served as their devoted champion for more than two decades. When he retires at the end of his term, our Caucus and the Congress will truly miss his tireless voice For The People.

"Whether as Mayor of West New York, Speaker of the State Assembly or Member of Congress, Congressman Sires has been a relentless leader to promote affordable housing, access to education including after-school initiatives, and jobs for working families. On the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, he has helped strengthen the New Jersey transit systems that are central to the lives of his constituents. And, as Chairman of the Foreign Relations Subcommittee on Western Hemisphere, Civilian Security and Trade, he has been a recognized leader in advancing our national security and stronger relations in our hemisphere.

"On behalf of the House, I thank Congressman Sires for his committed leadership, and I wish him and his wife Adrienne all the best as they embark on their next adventure."
