Statement

Date: Dec. 6, 2021

Today, U.S. Senator Roy Blunt (Mo.) released the following statement on Kansas City Monarchs baseball legend Buck O'Neil's election to the Baseball Hall of Fame:

"Buck O'Neil was a larger-than-life legend whose legacy extended well beyond the baseball diamond," said Blunt. "His election to the National Baseball Hall of Fame is a testament not only to his incredible ability as an athlete, but also to his lifelong dedication to preserving the history of Negro Leagues Baseball. I join Buck O'Neil's family and fans, the Kansas City community, and the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum in celebrating a great moment for our country and the game of baseball."

Blunt was at the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum last month to unveil the design for the Negro Leagues Baseball Centennial Commemorative Coin, which was authorized under legislation Blunt and U.S. Representative Emanuel Cleaver (Mo.) worked together to get signed into law in December of last year.
