BROWN ANNOUNCES $200,000 TO STRENGTHEN MEAT AND POULTRY PRODUCTION & SUPPLY CHAIN IN CAMDEN

Press Release

Date: Dec. 2, 2021
Location: Washington, DC

Today, U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) announced that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has awarded a $200,000 Meat and Poultry Inspection Readiness Grant (MPIRG) to Camden Locker LLC in Camden. These funds will help Camden Locker make necessary improvements to secure the Ohio Department of Agriculture's (ODA) full inspection and become Cooperative Interstate Shipment (CIS) compliant. This will also increase plant production and help better serve local farmers and ranchers.

"If we're serious about fighting consolidation in the livestock sector, we need to invest in the small processors in rural Ohio that will help make our supply chain more resilient," said Brown. "I'm glad to see the Biden administration continuing to fulfill promises by putting Ohioans first and investing in Ohio agriculture."

In June, Brown applauded USDA's efforts to help processing facilities struggling during the pandemic and make a series of additional investments under the Build Back Better initiative focused on building a better food system.

MPIRG was created under the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2021 to help small and very small processing facilities weather the pandemic, compete in the marketplace, and get the support they need to reach more customers.
