BROWN ANNOUNCES $250,000 FOR ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT IN RURAL COMMUNITIES ACROSS OHIO

Today, U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) announced that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has awarded a $250,000 Rural Community Development Initiative Grant to the Great Lakes Community Action Partnership (formerly WSOS) in Fremont. The funds will be used to support rural economies and provide technical assistance to the communities of Columbiana, Fayette, Fostoria, Lisbon, Minerva, Painesville, Paulding, Salem and Tiffin.

"Ohio communities need access to the technology necessary to provide proper workforce development and health education services," Brown said. "This funding will Ohio communities the tools needed to adapt and ensure that community's needs are being met."

This Rural Community Development investment will be used to provide technical assistance for a local planning and development initiatives through Great Lake Community Action Partnership (GLCAP). GLCAP has been working to develop rural communities for nearly 40 years. Through this project, GLCAP aims to support the rural economy and workforce, and improve quality of life in these areas.

Brown has been a leader for Ohio's rural communities, fighting to secure crucial funding for USDA grant and loan programs. He is the first Ohioan to serve on the Senate Agriculture Committee in more than 50 years.
