Rep. Cartwright Urges Fair Funding for Scranton Schools as Scranton Teachers' Union Strikes

Statement

Date: Nov. 10, 2021
Location: Washington, DC

Today, U.S. Representative Matt Cartwright (PA-08) made this statement on the Scranton Teachers' Union strike:

"Scranton public schools need the resources to provide a productive and safe learning environment for our kids, and this starts with supporting the educators who do this vital work. After five years without a contract or a raise -- and a pandemic that upended both teaching and learning -- Scranton public school teachers and paraprofessionals deserve a contract that reflects the impact they make on our children and our community as a whole," said Rep. Cartwright. "While I hope the teachers and the district can continue working to resolve their issues as soon as possible, I urge Harrisburg to act to ensure the school district receives its fair share of state funding now and in the future. It is the most common-sense, sustainable solution for Scranton's students, teachers and residents."
