Congressman Cicilline Votes to Pass Bipartisan Infrastructure Package, Bring $8.5B Home to Rhode Island

Statement

Congressman David N. Cicilline (RI-01) today voted to pass the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, bipartisan legislation that will invest $550 billion to bring America's infrastructure into the 21st Century.

"The United States has the largest economy in the world. Yet, our roads and bridges are crumbling and more than 10 million households do not have safe drinking water. This is unacceptable.

"The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act makes the largest ever federal investments in public transit, clean drinking water and wastewater infrastructure, clean energy transmission, and electric vehicle infrastructure. It also makes the largest investment in passenger rail since the creation of Amtrak and the largest dedicated bridge investment since we built the interstate highway system.

"These historic investments are desperately needed. I'm proud to say that this legislation will create millions of good paying jobs while addressing critical infrastructure needs like the South Quay Port Project and Mt. Hope Bridge in Rhode Island.

"This is how we deliver for the American people."

The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act is projected to send roughly $8.5+ billion to Rhode Island over 5 years:

$1.5 billion for federal-aid highway apportioned programs
$242 million for bridge replacement
$272 million for public transportation improvements
$6 billion for Amtrak's Northeast Corridor
$23 million to expand the state's electric vehicle charging network
$100 million for broadband coverage
$378 million for water infrastructure improvements
$2 million for wildfire protection
$10.9 million for cyberattack prevention
$45 million for airport improvements
