Pelosi Statement on Bilateral Meetings with UN Secretary-General Guterres, COP26 President Sharma & First Minister of Scotland Sturgeon at COP26

Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued this statement after participating in bilateral meetings with the Secretary-General of the United Nations António Guterres, COP26 President the Right Honorable Alok Sharma and First Minister of Scotland the Right Honorable Nicola Sturgeon:

"Today, our Congressional delegation was honored to convey America's strong commitment to climate action under the leadership and vision of President Biden. In each of these meetings, my House colleagues and I proudly shared how the Congress is advancing our legislation to Build Back Better, which, with the Bipartisan Infrastructure Framework, represents the most ambitious and consequential climate and clean energy legislation of all time, with its nearly $1 trillion investment in realigning our economy to be Greener and Cleaner.

"It was a privilege to meet with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, where our delegation expressed the deep appreciation for his prioritization of climate action. We joined in welcoming the spirit of global environmental collaboration that has been ushered in since the start of the Biden presidency and the imperative of the climate emergency to our interconnected world.

"During our meeting with COP26 President Alok Sharma, our Congressional delegation thanked him for his leadership, for the urgency that he brings to the climate fight and for his commitment to making gender equity a key component of climate action. The delegation expressed our commitment to equitable and just climate action for the most vulnerable nations and communities, the importance of transparency and accountability on the part of nations making climate commitments and our continued partnership in combatting climate change.

"In our meeting with First Minister of Scotland Nicola Sturgeon, we reaffirmed our shared belief that the climate crisis is an existential threat to the world that requires a just transition to clean energy economies. We also discussed the importance of ensuring that workers in every sector of society have an opportunity to advancing green technology, manufacturing and industrial solutions.
