Rep. Calvert: It's Essential to Pump and Store California Water When it Comes

Press Release

Date: Oct. 27, 2021

Today, Congressman Ken Calvert (CA-42) announced he and other members of the California House delegation have sent a letter to President Biden and Governor Newsom requesting federal and state emergency declarations related to the drought and recent storms in California to maximize pumping of stormwater and unregulated flows in the Delta.

"This past weekend's storm doesn't end our drought, but it did produce a significant amount of water in northern and central California that we can ill-afford to waste," said Rep. Calvert. "The bomb cyclone that fed the atmospheric river event helped saturate our dry ground. That means another storm in the coming weeks would likely produce a high yield of runoff water. It's essential that our federal and state officials take every step to pump and store that water as it flows through the Delta. California families, businesses and farmers need the Biden and Newsom administrations to treat this water like the precious resource it is."
