Carper, Colleagues Introduce John Lewis Voting Rights Act to Protect Our Democracy

U.S. Senator Tom Carper (D-Del.) released the following statement today after joining his colleagues to introduce S.4, the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, in the Senate:

"With state legislatures across the country enacting a wave of restrictions with the explicit purpose of making it harder, not easier, to vote, the urgency to pass federal voting rights legislation has never been greater. I believe that Congress has a moral obligation to protect the bedrock of our democracy by ensuring that every citizen has access to the ballot box. No one understood the importance of voting rights in this country better than my friend and former House colleague John Lewis, and it is a fitting tribute to name this legislation after him. I'm proud to join my colleagues in introducing the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, and believe the Senate must pass this bill without delay."
