Date: Sept. 28, 2021
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Representative Lucille Roybal-Allard (CA-40) today celebrated the awarding of U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) grants totaling $7,273,360 to health centers in California's 40th Congressional District. The funds are being provided as part of the American Rescue Plan, which Rep. Roybal-Allard helped pass in February.

The grants were awarded to AltaMed Health Services Corporation, Universal Community Health Center, Family Health Care Centers of Greater Los Angeles, Inc., South Central Family Health Center, JWCH Institute, Inc., Kedren Community Health Center, Inc., and Via Care Community Health Center, Inc.

"Health centers serve as important lifelines for communities across California's 40th District, particularly as we continue to battle the COVID-19 pandemic. I thank the Department of Health and Human Services for providing these critical funds to our local health centers," said Rep. Roybal-Allard. "Our ongoing fight against this pandemic demands robust federal support, which is why I was proud to vote for the American Rescue Plan to provide the funding our communities need. These grants are just another example of how the American Rescue Plan is delivering real results to our communities and our nation. As Vice Chair of the House Labor-HHS-Education Appropriations Subcommittee, which allocates funding for HHS, I'll keep working to ensure HHS has the funds it needs to make investments like these to preserve the well-being of our families."

The purpose of the HHS grant funding is to support construction, expansion, alteration, renovation, and other capital improvements to modify, enhance, and expand healthcare infrastructure. The funding is also meant to advance health equity and better health outcomes in medically underserved communities, including through projects that support COVID-19 testing, treatment, and vaccination.
