Rep. Delgado Meets with Germantown Small Business Owners, Highlights Direct Support for Communities Act

Today, U.S. Representative Antonio Delgado (NY-19) and Germantown Supervisor Robert Beaury met with local Germantown small business owners. The Congressman, Supervisor, and owners discussed how they are responding to and recovering from COVID-19. Rep. Delgado's Direct Support for Communities Act funding formula is delivering $186,600 to Germantown and $11.4 million to Columbia County to support local businesses, improve infrastructure, and more. New York's 19th Congressional District will receive over $400 million in direct federal relief.

Businesses like Otto's Market, the Germantown Laundromat, and Mary MacGill Studio are instrumental in growing the local economy and providing jobs -- I will keep working to make sure they have the resources they need to keep their doors open"

Passage of the historic Direct Support for Communities Act is part of a larger effort by Rep. Delgado to change how the federal government supports rural communities. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, early relief bills targeted only large, densely populated communities -- underscoring the need for a mechanism to get federal support to smaller, more rural communities across the country. Rep. Delgado responded by introducing the Direct Support for Communities Act in May 2020, the first of its kind legislation establishing a mechanism to get federal funding to all counties and local governments, irrespective of size.
