Today, as expanded Child Tax Credit (CTC) payments are distributed to families across the state, Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) praised this benefit assisting Maryland families and released a video featuring two Maryland mothers discussing how it has impacted their lives and children. The video features interviews with Nadia M. and Joannie R., who share how these payments have helped them cover vital daily expenses for their families. The Child Tax Credit was expanded in the American Rescue Plan, which was passed by Congressional Democrats and signed into law by President Biden earlier this year.

"On the 15th of every month, families across Maryland can breathe a little easier knowing that they can pay their bills and put food on the table," said Congressman Hoyer. "I thank Nadia M. and Joannie R. for sharing how expanded Child Tax Credit payments have helped their families. Both women demonstrate the strength of so many Maryland and Fifth District residents who have faced significant challenges during this pandemic. I am glad that the Child Tax Credit Democrats worked hard to enhance with President Joe Biden is providing hardworking Marylanders with the security and comfort they need to provide for their children."

With the expanded Child Tax Credit, Maryland families will receive a total of $3,600 for each child under 6 and $3,000 total for each child between ages 6 and 17. Families will receive automatic monthly payments of up to $300 per child under age 6 and up to $250 per child from ages 6 to 17 through the enhanced Child Tax Credit. These monthly payments will continue to reach households in Maryland through December. Families will be able to collect any remaining funds next year by filing their 2021 tax return. The American Rescue Plan was signed into law by President Joe Biden on March 11, 2021, paving the way for a historic expansion of the Child Tax Credit which is estimated to help 150,000 qualifying children in Maryland's Fifth Congressional District.

Congressman Hoyer continues to encourage Fifth District residents to share their stories on how the Child Tax Credit has improved their lives. For more information on the Child Tax Credit or to share your story, visit https://hoyer.house.gov/CTC today.
