WASHINGTON -- Today, Congresswoman Cheri Bustos (IL-17) helped pass a continuing resolution to keep the federal government open through December 3, 2021.

The resolution extends government funding through December 3, and includes two emergency supplemental funding bills to address recent natural disasters and support the resettlement of Afghan evacuees.

"A government shutdown in the middle of a continuing pandemic would be a failure for the American people. Our nation is still recovering economically, our small businesses still need support and American families are still struggling to put food on the table -- to let our government falter would be a reckless abuse of the responsibility we have to our nation. That's why I was voted to keep the government open through December 3, 2021 and provide emergency funding to help our nation continue to recover from disaster," said Congresswoman Bustos. "This package meets the needs not just of our people, but of our Afghan allies fleeing danger, and takes one more important step in welcoming home those seeking a better life for themselves and their children."

The Continuing Resolution includes:

$28.6 billion in emergency funding for disaster relief funding for hurricanes, wildfires, droughts, winter storms and more. This includes $10 billion for agriculture disaster relief in response to drought, derechos and floods impacting farmers across the nation, and $1.2 billion to support low-interest loans to help businesses, nonprofit organizations, homeowners, and renters recover from Hurricane Ida and other disasters.
$6.3 billion in funding to help Afghan refugees.
