Gallego Celebrates Wins for Veterans in FY2022 Veterans Affairs Committee Markup

Statement

Following the mark-up of the House Veteran's Affairs Committee component of the reconciliation package, the committee approved a budget including $18 billion in new investments to upgrade the United States Department of Veterans Affairs' (VA) aging physical infrastructure, support the department's workforce, and reinforce the support structures that serve our nation's veterans.

"The budget advanced by the committee today delivers on President Biden's Build Back Better agenda to provide the best resources and care for our veterans," said Rep. Ruben Gallego. "The vast majority of Americans agree that upgrades to the VA's infrastructure are long overdue. After years of chronic underfunding, these new investments will not only support an overhaul of the VA's physical assets, but also provide a long-term commitment to the VA workforce who work selflessly for our nation's veteran community. As a veteran who has personally relied on the VA over the years, I am proud to support this budget--which respects the sacrifices of our veterans--and I look forward to working with my colleagues in the House to ensure the full reconciliation package reaches the President's desk."
