Capito Joins Call for Congress to Honor American Heroes of Afghanistan War

In the aftermath of the chaotic end to operations in Afghanistan, U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) joined a resolution calling for Congress to recognize and honor those men and women who fought in America's Global War on Terror in Afghanistan and whose selfless sacrifice and efforts helped keep our nation safe.

The bicameral resolution affirms that "the peace the United States has experienced over the last twenty years is a direct result of the actions of the brave members of our Armed Forces, diplomats, and humanitarians" and that their service "is something to be remembered, lauded, and honored."

"Over the past two decades, West Virginia's sons and daughters put on a uniform and went to some of the most dangerous places in the world, all in the name of defending freedom," Senator Capito said. "Watching the mismanaged withdrawal from Afghanistan has left some to question if their service was worthwhile, meaning we must stand together as Americans and unequivocally tell them that it was. Our veterans kept us safe and preserved liberty around the globe, and I'm proud to join my colleagues in recognizing their efforts to defeat terrorism at home and abroad."
