DeLauro: Bush Refusal to Investigate Dubai Port Sale Reveals Tin Ear on Homeland Security

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (Conn.-3) today issued the following statement in response to the president's comment that he will veto any legislation that blocks or delays the Dubai Ports World sale. This transaction will affect significant operations at six American ports and will leave nearly every major port on the Atlantic and in the Gulf in the hands of a company wholly owned by a foreign entity

"The idea that any foreign government could control our ports sets off alarm bells for many Americans. Our nation's ports are among our most critical infrastructure and we must take every precaution when it comes to ensuring their security.

"President Bush's refusal to conduct a rigorous investigation into this matter or sanction one by Congress despite mounting criticism reveals just how out of touch his Administration is with our nation's homeland security needs. With the president showing a tin ear to legitimate homeland security concerns, Congress must take matters into its own hands."
