Huizenga Statement on US-Canada Border Restriction Extension

Statement

Date: Sept. 20, 2021
Location: Washington, DC

Today, Congressman Bill Huizenga (R-MI) released the following statement after the Biden Administration announced it was extending border restrictions over land between the United States and Canada for a stunning 18th consecutive month.

"President Biden continues to fail the communities across Michigan and the northern border states that rely on tourism dollars from Canadians to support small businesses and the livelihood of the families that run them, said Congressman Bill Huizenga. "To treat the Canadian land border different than air travel is nonsensical, especially when thousands of individuals are crossing the southern border illegally. The continuation of this fact-free, ad-hoc policy-making punishes Michigan families, small businesses, and communities for no reason."
