Congressman Correa Applauds the Homeland Security Committee Passage of Cybersecurity Investments in Reconciliation

Washington, D.C. -- Today, Congressman Lou Correa (D-CA), Chairman of the House Homeland Security Subcommittee on Oversight, Management, and Accountability, released the following statement:

Rep Lou Correa said: "As a senior member of the House Homeland Security Committee, I am proud that the committee passed reconciliation text to include investments in cybersecurity. The funds that the bill provides to the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) are crucial to our national security. These investments and resources are much needed in order to protect our Federal networks and critical infrastructure and build the cyber workforce we need for the future."

Background: During the Homeland Security Committee hearings for reconciliation Congressman Correa voted to incorporate:

Language that will provide a $100 million investment over the next 10 years in CISA's cybersecurity workforce development and education efforts, and including an amendment to clarify that the resources in the fund also invest in existing partnerships with Minority Serving Institutions and community colleges -- which will help colleges in Rancho Santiago Community College District and North Orange County Community College District.
An amendment to provide $25 million for CISA to engage in training activities of cyber incident responses -- develop workforce skills through a training environment used to simulate real-world security incidents for cybersecurity professionals. It serves as a valuable training tool as cyber incidents grow more frequent and more sophisticated. This funding is offset by reducing funds available for CISA general support funding.
An amendment to provide $75 million to CISA's CyberSentry program - a pilot program at CISA that deploys network sensors to identify malicious activity in critical infrastructure industrial control systems and corporate networks.
An amendment to provide $50 million for CISA for researching and developing means to secure operational technology, including industrial control systems, against cybersecurity vulnerabilities.
