Rep. Calvert Statement on the Death of Lance Corporal Kareem Nikoui

Statement

Date: Aug. 27, 2021

Today, Congressman Ken Calvert (CA-42) issued the following statement on the death of Norco resident and Marine Corps Lance Corporal Kareem Nikoui:

"Lance Corporal Kareem Nikoui served his nation with honor and distinction. Words are incapable of expressing our grief and mourning for the loss of Lance Corporal Nikoui and the other U.S. service members who were killed in yesterday's terror attack in Kabul. Our hearts ache for their families, friends, and fellow service members.

Lance Corporal Nikoui died while carrying out a mission to rescue fellow U.S. citizens and our allies in grave danger. When his nation needed him, he answered the call without hesitation. As a proud Marine, Lance Corporal Nikoui and his unit put themselves in harm's way in order to provide safety to others. That's the definition of courage. That's the embodiment of the Marine Corps motto, Semper Fidelis. Through his brave actions, Lance Corporal Nikoui remained faithful to his fellow Marines, his country, and our citizens.

I have spoken with the Nikoui family and expressed my condolences on behalf of the 42nd Congressional District. The burden they bear is unimaginable. My office and I will support them in any way that we are able to in the days ahead.

Our nation is forever grateful for the service and sacrifice of Lance Corporal Nikoui."
