Location: Downey, CA

Downey, CA-- Today, U.S. Representative Lucille Roybal-Allard (CA-40) announced the results of a new report from the Joint Economic Committee estimating that 76,000 Child Tax Credit monthly tax cut payments were sent to families in California's 40th Congressional District in the month of August. The payments were funded through the American Rescue Plan, which Rep. Roybal-Allard helped pass in February. In August, a total of $41.6 million in tax cuts went back into the pockets of hardworking families in the District.
The report also found that statewide, 4,283,000 of these tax cut payments went out to California families in August, totaling $1.79 billion. The average payment statewide was $418. Nationwide, the Joint Economic Committee estimates the Child Tax Credit tax cuts are pumping $19.3 billion into local economies each month, supporting local jobs and businesses.
"I'm thrilled that Child Tax Credit monthly tax cut payments from the American Rescue Plan continue to help hardworking parents in the 40th District, statewide, and across our nation build better lives for their families by helping them pay for child care, put gas in the car to get to work, put food on the table, cover school expenses, spend money at our local businesses, and much more," said Rep. Roybal-Allard. "I have been working for years to highlight the importance of an expanded Child Tax Credit, and I was thrilled to help include it in the American Rescue Plan. Hardworking, dedicated parents are doing all they can to make ends meet and provide for their children, particularly as we continue to battle the economic fallout of the COVID-19 pandemic. All told, these payments will lift millions of children out of poverty and help ensure a brighter future for them and for generations to come. I urge my constituents to be on the lookout for future payments and to take full advantage of these federal funds."
Rep. Roybal-Allard played a critical role in including the Child Tax Credit monthly tax cut payments in the American Rescue Plan. For years, she has worked to highlight the need to address child poverty and has worked with her colleagues to make the payments a reality. She also commissioned a study by the National Academy of Sciences that showed an expanded Child Tax Credit would be an integral solution for reducing child poverty nationwide.
In May, Rep. Roybal-Allard joined her colleagues Reps. Rosa DeLauro (CT-3) and Barbara Lee (CA-13) for a virtual discussion about their work over the years to bring these payments to fruition and to highlight the benefits they are now providing to working families.
