Sánchez statement on terrorist attack outside Kabul airport, loss of 13 U.S. service members

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Congresswoman Linda T. Sánchez today released the following statement on the terrorist attack at Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul, Afghanistan and the loss of 13 American service members.

"My heart is with the family members and loved ones of the 13 American service members who were killed in Kabul. These brave individuals who lost their lives, and all our troops on the ground, courageously went to carry out our mission knowing the threats they faced. Those we lost will forever be remembered as heroes, and my thoughts are with all our service members working to protect the lives of U.S. Citizens, our Afghan allies, and countless others threatened by heinous and cowardly acts of terrorism.

"I condemn these attacks in the strongest possible terms and stand ready to work with the Biden Administration to hold those responsible accountable. This country has never been bullied by terrorists, and I know that with our allies, the intelligence community, and our diplomats, we will carry out our mission and protect American and Afghan lives.

"My thoughts are with our troops, Afghan allies, and all innocent victims as we continue to monitor this rapidly evolving situation. My office remains in touch with Congressional leadership, the Administration, and all relevant federal agencies."
