Congressman Tom Rice joined more than 100 Republican members of the U.S. House of Representatives on a letter to the American people, affirming their commitment to fiscal responsibility and promising not to participate in any attempt from the Democrats to raise the debt ceiling.

"I will not vote to increase the debt ceiling," said Congressman Rice. "This problem was created by Democrats through their several spending sprees - including their $3.5 trillion budget resolution which passed without a single GOP vote. Democrats bear the sole responsibility for raising the debt ceiling and will answer to the American people for this."

Historically, negotiations to raise the debt ceiling have been bipartisan.

This letter follows a similar letter signed by 46 Republican Senators earlier this summer, promising no Republican support for any Democrat-led efforts to raise the debt ceiling.
