Duncan Celebrates White House's Defeat in Withdrawing Anti-Gun ATF Nominee

Today, Congressman Jeff Duncan celebrates the White House's defeat in withdrawing David Chipman as the nominee to lead the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms.

"The White House withdrew David Chipman as its nominee to lead the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms after realizing Chipman's anti-gun extremism would not receive adequate support. This defeat is a victory for Americans and the Constitution," said Congressman Duncan. "Because of Chipman's proven disregard of the Second Amendment and the rights of American citizens to bear arms, he would have been a threat to gun owners across the country. The Second Amendment would have been directly targeted if Chipman was confirmed as Director of the ATF, so the White House's withdrawal of his nomination is a huge win for the Second Amendment and American gun owners."

"Chipman spent much of his career fighting against gun rights as a paid lobbyist and is an extremely partisan, anti-gun radical. He had no place in working to further restrict the rights of law-abiding Americans to bear arms, which would jeopardize the ability of Americans to defend themselves," said Congressman Jeff Duncan. "If confirmed as Director of the ATF, I had already signed articles of impeachment against David Chipman for his failure to support and defend the Constitution and for false statements to Congress."

"Protecting Second Amendment rights is a leading priority and must be defended, especially with the pushback on gun rights from the anti-Second Amendment Biden Administration. We will continue to remain vigilant to ensure whomever the Biden Administration nominates next to lead the ATF will respect the Constitution and our right to bear arms."
