Guest Applauds $9.1 Million Contract to Stabilize Natchez National Cemetery

Washington, D.C. -- Congressman Michael Guest (MS-03) applauded the news of a $9.1 million contract to speed up an emergency project to stabilize a bluff impacted by erosion that threatens the Natchez National Cemetery.

"I'm grateful for the opportunity to work alongside local, state, and federal officials to help ensure the Natchez National Cemetery is preserved for future generations of veterans and their families," Guest said. "The speed of the work by officials to protect this valuable site should be commended."

Congressman Guest worked closely with landowners, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), the United States Army Corps of Engineers, the VA's National Cemetery Administration, and other Members of Congress to help expedite the contract in order to quickly address the erosion issues that were deemed an emergency by federal officials following a high degree of erosion in the spring. Congressman Guest also thanks Randy Reeves, former Under Secretary for Veterans Affairs for Memorial Affairs, for his tireless efforts to address this matter.

The project targets the bluffs along the western edge of the cemetery and will utilize similar methods that have been used to stabilize other bluffs in the Natchez area. Construction is projected to be completed by August 2022.
