Graham: Trifecta Of Catastrophe Happening In Afghanistan

Press Release

Date: Aug. 16, 2021
Location: Washington, DC

WASHINGTON -- U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina) today spoke on the situation in Afghanistan.

GRAHAM: "When you hear the word Taliban, think of al Qaeda. When you hear the phrase Taliban, think of 9/11. Without the Taliban, there would have been no 9/11. The Taliban are radical terrorists, they're Islamic jihadists aligned with al Qaeda -- it's just a matter of time before al Qaeda rises again in Afghanistan. The threat to the homeland has gone through the roof."
GRAHAM: "There's a "Trifecta from Hell' here. We've abandoned people who have fought with us. We have created the conditions for another 9/11. And this debacle in Afghanistan makes us weaker throughout the globe."
GRAHAM: "President Biden, in my view, has been wrong about foreign policy consistently for the last thirty or forty years. He's gone from being sort of incompetent to literally dangerous. He's overwhelmed by the job….He chose this path. He was given options and he chose the most dangerous option available."
GRAHAM: "I'm urging President Biden to establish safe corridors so that we can get our people out -- the Afghans who helped us…President Biden has tens of thousands of people who helped us in his hands right now. I hope he will set up a system so we can get these people out."
