Location: Washington, DC

WASHINGTON, DC -- Today, U.S. Senator Jack Reed (D-RI), Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, issued the following statement on the terror attacks in Afghanistan:

"I am angered by the despicable terrorist attacks at Hamid Karzai airport. Today's loss of life is tragic and my heart is with the victims and their families, especially the brave American servicemembers who were killed while selflessly trying to protect those seeking safety and a better life.

"The Department of Defense is still actively investigating a very fluid situation and we will wait to hear from them regarding culpability and accountability.

"I understand that evacuations continue. It is my hope that over the next couple days we will continue to evacuate not only American citizens but Afghans who supported our mission known as SIVs and other Afghans who have been targeted by the Taliban."
