Congressman Boyle: Democrats Must Support Historic Reconciliation Bill

Statement

Date: Aug. 17, 2021
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Brendan F. Boyle (PA-02), announced today that he will not support the current Senate bipartisan infrastructure bill until the passage of a budget reconciliation bill. The Congressman released the following statement supporting his decision:

"This is only the second time in my lifetime that we have an opportunity to "go big' for the American people and pass truly transformative legislation. We must seize it. The reconciliation bill includes, for the first time in American history: universal pre-K, a paid family leave program, national support for childcare, free community college, making the Child Tax Credit permanent, and more! This goes to the very heart of why I first registered as a Democrat over twenty years ago."

"I feel so strongly about this that I cannot in good conscience support the Senate infrastructure bill if the House fails to vote on and pass the reconciliation bill. Only by going together, and passing both bills, will we achieve historic progress for the people."

"Along with the aforementioned priorities, I will continue to lobby leadership to re-insert the Member Designated Projects, such as the Erie Station Improvement project, etc. Defending these investments in the PA-02 community as this process advances is my top priority. At this moment, it is my firm belief that those projects can only be realized via the reconciliation process."
