Scalise Honors Lives Lost on the Twentieth Anniversary of the September 11th Terrorist Attacks

Statement

Today, on the twentieth anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks, House Republican Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) issued the following statement remembering the lives that were lost:

"Twenty years ago, terrorists sought to destroy the American spirit and dismantle our way of life. September 11th will forever be remembered as a solemn day where innocent people were murdered in what became the worst attack on our nation since Pearl Harbor.

"As we honor the 2,977 victims who lost their lives, we will never forget those who died that day or the heroism of the brave firefighters, police officers, and EMTs who selflessly charged into danger to save even more lives. Nor will we forget the passengers and crew of Flight 93 who defiantly fought back against their hijackers and prevented even more attacks.

"Today, we pause to remember the victims from this tragic day and pray for the families and loved ones of all those who gave their lives on September 11, 2001. With gratitude, we also recognize the strength and resolve of the American people to stand up to evil at home and around the world, and never yield to those who wish us harm.

"Today should also serve as a reminder that we continue to live in a dangerous world where there are evil people dedicated to destroying the United States and killing as many Americans as possible. We must remain vigilant. It's Congress' responsibility to maintain a robust national defense so that America can protect her citizens and remain the strongest beacon for good in the world."
