Today, Congressman Veasey (TX-33) issued the following statement on the situation in Afghanistan:

"The current situation in Afghanistan is tragic for everyone who has worked to stabilize the country and root out terrorism. President Biden's address underscores that there are no easy answers to this situation in Afghanistan. I support the decision to bring our troops home after 20 long years, but I also believe we must answer the tough questions about why we were not better prepared to respond to the unfolding crisis.

"Right now, the safety and security of our brave troops, civilian personnel, and Afghan partners must be our top priority. We must do all we can to evacuate them as quickly and safely as possible, and I urge the Administration to look at every avenue to expedite this process."
