Congresswoman Maloney Joins President Biden to Discuss Devastation in New York Following Hurricane Ida

NEW YORK, NY -- Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney (D-NY) today joined President Biden, Governor Hochul, and other members of the New York Congressional Delegation during his visit to Queens to tour flood damage and to discuss the effects of Hurricane Ida and the importance of prioritizing climate change for New York City.

"I want to thank President Biden for coming to New York City today in the aftermath of last week's devastating storm. We continue to see the drastic impacts of climate change increase every year, and it is imperative that we continue to address and make the climate crisis a top priority in Congress.

"The losses that we witnessed during this hurricane are unimaginable: dozens of lost lives; homes destroyed, including by gas leaks triggered by the flooding; and damaged infrastructure, including the rail system.

"Help is here. So far, over 7,000 families that have registered for financial assistance, and that number will continue to grow. If you haven't registered yet, New Yorkers can go to DisasterAssistance.gov, use the FEMA app, or call 1-800-621-FEMA. The road to recovery will be a long one, but I know that "New York Strong' will prevail as it always does."
