Shaheen Hosts Webinar for Local Governments on Available Funding from American Rescue Plan

Today, U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) co-hosted a virtual webinar on funding from the American Rescue Plan to assist local governments across the state. The Senator shared how $1.4 billion in funding for state, local and county governments is being implemented and discussed what federal resources are available to help small municipalities manage federal funds and execute projects. She also encouraged municipalities to apply for recovery funds by the state's August 18th deadline.

The event was hosted with the New Hampshire Municipal Association, New Hampshire Community Development Finance Authority, New Hampshire Association of Counties, New Hampshire Charitable Foundation and the New Hampshire Center for Nonprofits.

"Local governments across New Hampshire are still reeling from the economic fallout from the pandemic. That's why robust funding from the American Rescue Plan that I fought to secure is so important to help local communities recover -- ensuring municipalities can afford the provision of critical services and employment of frontline workers despite budgetary shortfalls," said Shaheen. "I'm grateful for the incredible work of local leaders and nonprofits over the last sixteen months, and their partnership is key to getting us to the other side of this crisis and rebuilding our communities."

Senator Shaheen's leadership helped to secure robust flexible assistance for state and local governments in the American Rescue Plan Act during negotiations with colleagues in the Senate and with the Biden administration. Previously, she was a member of the bipartisan, bicameral group of lawmakers that steered negotiations on COVID-19 relief. The COVID-19 relief bill signed into law in December contained Shaheen-negotiated legislation that provided urgently needed assistance to American students, families, businesses, workers and health care providers impacted by the public health and economic crises. Senator Shaheen had a similar leadership role as a negotiator for the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act, which was signed into law last March and secured New Hampshire an initial $1.25 billion to assist with COVID-19 response efforts.
