Crapo Statement On Afghanistan

Statement

Date: Aug. 16, 2021
Location: Washington, DC

Washington, D.C.--U.S. Senator Mike Crapo (R-Idaho) issued the following statement with regard to the current crisis in Afghanistan:

"The haphazard withdrawal from Afghanistan is a failure of presidential leadership and was based on an arbitrary timeline, not on-the-ground intelligence. It will lead to heightened dangers around the world, continued torment and mistreatment of women and the massacre of our allies. It ripens the breeding ground for Al-Qaeda and other jihadi extremist groups to again build and export terrorism globally. The Biden Administration must prioritize the safe removal of American personnel and Afghan allies, including interpreters. They must also immediately implement a long-term national security policy to safeguard our national security interests and regional security."
