Tester Statement on U.S. Economy Adding 943,000 Jobs in July

Press Release

U.S. Senator Jon Tester today released the following statement after the U.S. Department of Labor announced that the American economy added 943,000 jobs in July:

"Today's jobs report is more proof that the targeted relief provided by the American Rescue Plan continues to create jobs and reopen our economy across the country. I'm proud to have partnered with Montanans to secure the resources provided by the Rescue Plan to ensure Montana small businesses are in a much stronger position than they were even months ago. But we can't take our eye off the ball, which is why it's critical that we get my bipartisan infrastructure package across the finish line so we can sustain this economic recovery and make sure we maintain our competitive edge over China for generations to come."

Tester was the only member of the Montana delegation to support the American Rescue Plan. He worked tirelessly to ensure the COVID relief bill provided targeted resources that will have a tangible impact on Montana's economy and ensure that anyone who wants a vaccine can get one. The bill ensures local mayors have the resources to keep cops and firefighters on the beat, every Montanan who wants a vaccine can get one, schools can fully re-open safely, and it provides badly-needed relief for hard-hit Montana workers and small businesses, along with fulfilling former President Trump's promise of $2,000 in direct payments for every American earning less than $75,000.

Last month, after months of negotiations, Tester and the bipartisan group of nine other Senators went to the White House to announce they had reached an agreement on the framework of a historic, bipartisan infrastructure package to create good-paying jobs by making urgently-needed investments in Montana's roads, bridges, broadband, water and more.
