WASHINGTON, DC-- Today, Chair of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure Peter DeFazio (D-OR) issued the following statement after the Senate passed a bipartisan infrastructure bill:

"Throughout my career, I have consistently advocated for increased federal investment in America's infrastructure. By investing in our infrastructure, we can create good-paying jobs, support American manufacturing, stop sending jobs to China and strengthen the economy. With today's passage of a bipartisan infrastructure bill in the Senate, Congress is as close as it has been in years to finally delivering on a big, bold infrastructure package. Unfortunately, this package falls short when it comes to addressing climate change like the existential threat it is, and the world's scientists only reinforced the need for additional action in the IPCC's latest alarming report. That is why I'm committed to continuing to fight for transformational funding and policies in the reconciliation process that will reduce carbon pollution from the transportation sector, support American manufacturing and ingenuity, and create infrastructure that is smarter, safer, and made to last."
