Ruppersberger Issues Statement on Terror Attack Outside Kabul Airport

Statement

Date: Aug. 26, 2021
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman C.A. Dutch Ruppersberger, a Defense Appropriator, issued the following statement on the terrorist attack outside the Kabul airport amid the evacuation of American troops, allies and Afghan civilians:

"I strongly condemn the cowardly attack in Kabul today that claimed the lives of 13 U.S. service members as well as scores of innocent civilians. My heart goes out to the families and loved ones of those our country lost today. We will never forget their heroic sacrifice, all to facilitate a better life for people they have never met.

Nearly two decades after September 11, American service members are tragically still dying in Afghanistan. We must continue to evacuate our fellow Americans and Afghan allies so we can ultimately bring our brave men and women in uniform home. The American people have wanted this war to be over. I commend the President for seeing this through and I will do everything in my power to support the President in holding ISIS accountable for this devastating attack. We must remind extremists around the world that anyone who wishes to harm Americans and our allies will pay the price."
