Rep. Roybal-Allard Celebrates Over $1.6 Billion for California Families in July Through Expanded Child Tax Credit

Today, U.S. Representative Lucille Roybal-Allard (CA-40) announced the results of a new study by the Joint Economic Committee (JEC) finding that the expanded Child Tax Credit brought $18.6 billion to local economies nationwide over the course of July.

Rep. Roybal-Allard also noted that in California, over the month of July, this important tax cut for working families put a total of over $2 billion into the state's economy and over $1.6 billion into families' pockets, benefiting nearly 6.6 million children across the state. Based on the July payments, the new study estimates that the Child Tax Credit monthly payments will continue to pump $18.6 billion into local economies each month.

Rep. Roybal-Allard encouraged her constituents to be on the lookout for the second round of Child Tax Credit payments, which were sent to families today.

"Expanded Child Tax Credit monthly payments are already helping reduce child poverty in California's 40th District, statewide, and across our nation," said Rep. Roybal-Allard. "I have been working for years to highlight the importance of this expanded credit and I was thrilled to help include it in the American Rescue Plan. Hardworking, dedicated parents are doing all they can to make ends meet and provide for their children, particularly as we continue to battle the economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. These payments will lift millions of children out of poverty and help ensure a brighter future for them and for generations to come. I urge my constituents to be on the lookout for the second round of payments, which went out today, and to take full advantage of these federal funds."

Rep. Roybal-Allard played a critical role in including the expanded Child Tax Credit in the American Rescue Plan. For years, she has worked to highlight the need to address child poverty and has worked with her colleagues to make the expanded Child Tax Credit law. She also commissioned a study by the National Academy of Sciences that showed an expanded Child Tax Credit would be an integral solution for reducing child poverty nationwide.

In May, Rep. Roybal-Allard joined her colleagues Reps. Rosa DeLauro (CT-3) and Barbara Lee (CA-13) for a virtual discussion about their work over the years to bring the expanded Child Tax Credit to fruition and to highlight the benefits it will have for working families.
