Rep. Roybal-Allard Meets with President Biden to Discuss Efforts to Provide Immigrants With a Pathway to Citizenship

Today, U.S. Representative Lucille Roybal-Allard (CA-40), the original co-author of the Dream Act and the first Mexican-American woman to serve in Congress, joined her colleagues in the Congressional Hispanic Caucus at the White House for a meeting with President Joe Biden to discuss the next steps for providing a pathway to citizenship for America's immigrants. Rep. Roybal-Allard then issued the following statement:

"After a very positive meeting with President Biden, I am inspired and hopeful that we can provide millions of immigrants with a pathway to citizenship in the upcoming budget reconciliation package.

"The President made it clear that he believes in our fundamental American values and that he recognizes and appreciates the humanity and dignity of our nation's immigrants. He knows that Dreamers, Temporary Protected Status (TPS) holders, essential workers, farm workers, and all immigrants contribute enormously to the United States. They strengthen our economy by working hard, paying taxes, and dedicating their lives to the nation they call home. This has never been more true than during the Coronavirus pandemic, when thousands of undocumented immigrants risked their own lives serving on the front lines.

"With the President's reaffirmed commitment to joining us in the fight to put immigrants on a pathway to citizenship, I am hopeful that we will see real change in our immigration policy that will benefit us all and that will allow immigrants to continue their extensive contributions to our nation. Moving forward, I will continue to work hard with my colleagues to help immigrants attain legal status and make sure the humanity and rights of immigrants are recognized, appreciated, and respected."
